Years before I started my first business, I dreamed of owning one. I just didn’t know precisely what to do, what exact steps to take, to make it happen.
Looking back at the beginning of my journey from where I am now, what I unconsciously wanted was a boot camp, a trial by fire, a rite of passage.
I’m building a rite of passage for entrepreneurs.
Here’s the working description so far:
The 628 Writing Challenge is an immersive experience for entrepreneurs ready to commit to writing a minimum of 600 words daily for 28 straight days alongside peers.
This challenge is a guided bootcamp for the lifelong pursuit of self-discovery through entrepreneurial free writing, fostering personal, professional, and financial growth.
Central Organizing Principle:
This isn’t just about writing.
It’s not even about learning how to make more money. It is a self-appointed ordeal, a rite of passage, a trial of character.
This is about you learning through experience who you are, what you’re supposed to do, and where you belong.
As far as I can tell, there is a vacuum in the entrepreneurial landscape, a total absence of any boot camp-style right of passage experience.
Everything changed for me when I read Chip Heath’s book the Power of Moments.
It helped me realize that creating defining, peak moments is a skill. A skill I want to acquire. So I am building as many of those into this experience as possible.
Here are the current objectives for the challenge:
- Learn to use entrepreneurial free writing to bring clarity to chaos and reduce anxiety and depression on the way to establishing and growing multiple income streams
- Establish a strong, consistent entrepreneurial free writing practice to continue to develop beyond the challenge
- Self-discovery and reflection to better understand yourself, the world, and how they best fit together
- To build a body of work of articulated problems, formulated solutions, and transformed solutions into products and services
- To form lifelong relationships with other writing-based entrepreneurs
- Create a sh*t load of momentum personally and professionally
Rules of the Challenge:
- Daily commitment: write a minimum of 600 words. 600 words is three handwritten pages if every page contains 200 words. The word count minimum allows for participation from both analog and digital writers
- Duration: 28 days. Four weeks. Studies show that 28 days in a row is the minimum threshold to establish a new habit.
- Group participation: Each participant must complete the challenge inside a group of 3-5 peers who are also completing the challenge. Individual participation is not allowed.
- Don’t read anything you write until we begin the 3rd week. Just hit the word count minimum by answering the prompts provided. Trust the process. This takes all the pressure off and creates an “idea oven” where the ideas in your varying writing sessions will meld into each other.
The Opportunity
I want to develop this into a truly life-changing experience.
And I need your help.
So I am looking for people I trust, people who believe in me, to beta test the challenge, because the only way to for me to develop an experience like this is to do it, get feedback, and improve it.
Then do it again, get feedback again, and improve it again.
It would be an honor if you would help me make the 628 Challenge a life-altering, transformative rite of passage.
Please accept my invitation to join one of the first two beta cohorts for free.
I’m not sure when the first will roll out, but my goal is to run the first paid version for January to kick off the year. So I’m thinking September, October, and/or November.
I hope to see you there.
